I was not able to find a site to give me a lot of historical information on the Jackson surname origin. I will post what I have found and suggest that anyone with more information forward it to me.

Coat of Arms: Silver with a black chevron on which there are three silver cinquefoils between three black eagles heads.

Crest: A silver horse with droplets of blood.

Spelling variations include: Jackson, Jaccson, Jacson, Jacksone, Jackston and others.

First found in Northumberland where they were seated from early times and their first records appeared on the early census rolls taken by the early Kings of Britain to determine the rate of taxation of their subjects.

Some of the first settlers of this name or some of its variants were: John, Margaret, Robert and Henry Jackson who settled in Boston Mass. in 1635; this military family continued its tradition in the War of Independence when Colonel Michael Jackson commanded a Massachusets Line Regiment.
